Welcome to Coastal Archers Website
Coastal Archers is a small, friendly club of Archers who shoot a variety of bow styles: Barebow, Compound, Longbow and / or Recurve (but not Crossbow).
As we don't own our own field we practise the art of Toxophily at three different locations in Somerset: Cossington, Berrow & Puriton (See locations page).
To be able to take part in the Sport, you need to have taken part in an Archery Beginners' Course: our Coaches run several courses each year (See coaching page).
Membership of Coastal Archers is available to those who have successfully completed a Beginners' Course. (See coaching page).
Annual Membership Fees are usually payable from 1st. October and include affiliation to Archery GB (formerly GNAS), Grand Western Archery Society (GWAS) and Somerset County Archery Association (SCAA). Fees can be pro rata depending on the time of year an Archer may join our Club. (Refer to appropriate page).
Archers from other archery clubs can become Associate Members at Coastal by paying the appropriate fee.
The Club was formed in 1986 and over the years our Archers have taken part in County, Regional and National competitions as well as annually organising a Longbow and a Clout Tournament - both rare events in this part of the country. The success of these events allows us to keep our membership fees as low as possible, whilst maintaining and updating our Club equipment.
Once an Archer has passed his / her Beginners' course, we encourage the Archer to purchase their own equipment and highly recommend a visit to Wales Archery Specialists, Crick Manor, Crick, Caldicot, Monmouthshire, NP26 5XU (link to website) for advice re appropriate kit. Similar to most Sports, Archery can be expensive at the start, so it's sensible to consult with our Coaches and / or the experts at Wales Archery.
Whilst it is possible to purchase secondhand equipment, it is wise to be wary of equipment with unknown or detailed history, especially Longbows! |
